According to the Rubber Manufacturers and the EPA, about 290 million tires are discarded in the United States each year. Over 80 percent of these tires are recycled or reused. But there is still 20 percent left which is about 58 million tires. The numbers are shocking!
There is a good old saying one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Meet Amarildo Silva from Brazil; a 23-year-old young man has developed a simple yet valuable hobby. He is transforming used tires into adorable beds for pets.
The hunt for tires begins!
With the help of his family, he gathers all tires he can find from the streets or the landfills.
The second step is cleaning and inspection
Amarildo cleans all tires one by one and later paints adorable designs on them. For a more comfortable feel, he fits hand made mattresses. And voila old unusable tire is transformed into a bed!
In two years he has sold over 500 tire-beds the hobby which turned into a booming business! Sadly he only sells these adorable beds in Brazil, but he has received requests for orders from all over the World.

All started as a hobby
But that’s not all because he also produces flowerpots and containers. The best part is that with his hobby Amarildo helps in minimizing waste.
